I'm sure I'm not the first one to theorize it, but I think the reason Jasper refers to Amethyst as "an overcooked runt" is she was one of the last gems made in the kindergarten and may have been intended to be taller like her- but something didn't work right when she was made?, and Pearl as "defective" because her gem is an oval- usually pearls are spherical, maybe an oblong one is looked down upon? It might explain why she's so tall compared to Ruby, Sapphire, and Amethyst that have round gems-- but she also said "a pearl" so I don't know, perhaps are there more pearls? Gah sorry this is a long comment x-x

Oh I thought it was probably because Amethyst was among(?) the only Kindergarten gems to realize that what they were doing was bad, but yours makes a lot more sense xD and Woah I never thought about how tall Pearl is compared to Amethyst Ruby & Sapphire, dang! your ideas are so great,, Also I just thought of this now, but what if Rose's "armies" consisted of outcasts? Garnet may have been an outcast cause she wanted to stay a fusion forever, and according to Jasper that was out of the ordinary, and Pearl could have been an outcast because of her gem-shape-problem. idk. There could be more Pearls though, because it's kinda unlikely that there could be enough gem names for all the Gems and their fusions. :v

Ah yes, Ocean Town... well Rose sure was "alive" back then, that was before Steven was born. maybe it was an invasion from Homeworld or something, because a whole lot of damage was done to the beach in just one visit from the Homeworld! idk- it's actually really interesting to think about what happened to Ocean Town! xD

COMPLETE NONSENSE:

Ruby and sapphire are sisters but they have abandoned emerald because steven is the champion of the kinderhoenn (Elite 4) pokegem (Pokemon) universe. Peridot was actually emerald but was trained by jasper and yellow diamond.

The only reason why pearl and yellow diamond is in the hoenn is because Cynthia and cyrus couldnt catch these gems. they were too powerful and escaped sinnohomeworld (Sinnoh)

Peridot is never gonna escape the space dorito meme xD

My theory is that Lion is the other half of Rose. I say this because why else would he have her stuff and take him to her old sanctuary place? Also I think that Steven's dad and Amethyst were more than just friends at a time.
