Unlike what you guys might have thought, Talo was never born into a royal family or anything like that. His governmemt system chooses a king & queen out of the people in Baridom, not by royalty & they also sent soldiers secretly to see who would be the best choice. They chose who would be king & queen whenever the king & queen in charge turned around 80 in human years.
When Talo was little though, an ironic thing was that he would play around with his 4 friends Vane, Sieden, Kio & Lynx & pretend he was king & they were his generals. He never guessed that he would be picked to be the next king & that his friends really would become generals.
Talo also can't really protect himself that well. He actually has a split personality called Ty that protects him when in danger, but that's only by "extreme" conditions, & in his world (since it's not as advanced) nobody could really understand what was wrong with him in those conditions, including himself.

The current queen, Vio.let (NOT Ren's sister!), is also a childhood friend of Talo's & she has a son named Cyte ("Kite" & they aren't married or anything like that either). Sadly, Talo's friend Vane had died in a monster attack, so he made a promise he'd watch his son Reido ("Re-doe") for him, who was 7 in human years around that time. Talo is well known to be helpful & kind around his kingdom but dangerous when he becomes Ty.
He used to sit outside his home & look at the castle in his past. He's also around 43 in human years right now.
But that's all I can really explain right now.
