Contour lines are a type of art style used to help give off texture (3D effect, wooden appearance, gridlines, etc.). Take for example the book "Where the Wild Things Are." Each image displays a variety of contour line art, giving off its grainy texture. If you search "Contour Line Art", you'll finf the most common style used: wavy lines to give 3D effect. I hope that clears things up! ^^
