ok so i KNoWww you asked for books/manga but theres this new anime that came out earlier this month called Death Parade im not sure if it came from a manga but the show is pretty good. theres a pilot of it back in 2013 titled death billiards. if you havent heard of it you should give it a tryy

yeah FMA has a good storyline, i also recommend any of the Pokemon Adventures manga.

also, if you watch Gundam Wing, when you finish it, watch the movie Endless Waltz after that. it basically is the true ending. :3

Ok, with happy endings? Fruits Basket was a sad manga but good ending, Good manga bad ending was DNAngel (bad as in stupid). And Book, The Demon King series by cinda Williams Chima. I swear by it!

Gurren Lagann. It gets real sad about a third of the way through but picks back up later. It's got a so-so happy ending I'd say.

And it's got so much badassery that one character was the cause of a meme.

If you like the premise of Tokyo Ghoul, you might enjoy the manga Parasyte or its anime counterpart, Parasyte: The Maxim. I have not seen the ending to either of these though, so I don't know if they have a happy ending.

how about Death Note?

There is a rEALLY good anime/manga I'm watching called Akatsuki no Yona. It has everything I've ever wanted in an anime (great story, beautiful and I mean BEAUTIFUL characters and animation, fighting, and rOMANCE! not /that/ romantic though but it has enough). It's ongoing though soo.... :T
I also started Mekaku City Actors/Kagerou Days. It made my kokoro go brokero but I'm not sure about the ending.
Zatch Bell is also a really good manga but i haven't finished it yet.
If you like light-hearted yaoi, I guess Love Stage, Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, and Junjou Romantica are good ones. c:
Also, stay away from the anime Sola. It was a waste of time and I hated the ending.
As for a book, Maximum Ride is a rlly good series. I've heard Jackababy is good too (it appeals to fans of Sherlock) and my sister absolutely adores the Jacky Faber series.
These are out of the top of my head so if I think of more I'll let you know.

Peeps already suggested some of these:FullMetalAlchemist, Ouran High School Host Club, Maximum Ride, Anima, Bakuman, Daniel X,and Tsubasa.These are all very good reads.Tsubasa's story can be kinda complicated at times so keep up with what you're reading.Bakuman's a good inside scoop on how manga is truly published in Shonen Magazines and has characters with goals they intend to achieve and blahblahblah.You'll figure all that out later.It's very good.I hated to finish it.So,yeah.Hope you get to read these series and enjoy them. :)
