Funfact: The eyeholes were red glass because they believed you wouldent get sick if you cant see the disease. Also, in the long nose, there were spices to filter the smell of rotting bodies and also to filter out the disease.

Whats more fascinating than plauges are how long the noses on those masks are :P

the legend of the plague doctor dates back to the era of the Bubonic Plague, where people dressed in all black except for their avian variety masks roamed the streets helping the sick with "tonics" claimed to cure any illness. Sadly, we do not know of any remains of any of these "cures." The plague doctors wore white masks, usually made of bone. The lenses had a red tint, believing that if you can't see the disease, you can't get it. They also stuffed roses and/or spices to drown out the smell of rotting flesh. The hat, I honestly don't know about that.
