I still can remember it.
That day.
That one faithful day that my brother decided to tell them.
I don´t blame him, I never did. But he does blame himself.
I hope he´ll stop it someday.
Because to this day, another day followed that was not as bright as we thought it may would.
I was the day we all died.

Western territory
Evening

"Hey, Allistair..." I looked up. There he stood, my younger `brother´. Not by blood, but something even more important to us. By a promise.
"You know... I think we really got into trouble." The man looked back, his eyes fixed on the masses drawing closer. My ears caught the sound of Baphomet´s breath. He was exhausted. He wouldn´t be able to run long distances. His powers were not affecting his physical appearance ***** all.
"Yep... Seems like it." I sighed. We should get moving. They were closing in on us. And if they really caught up...
I grinded my teeth at the thought of it. They were hunting us. They were trying to KILL us. /...

.../And what for?
Because we were trying to help them. Because we were willing to give up our secrets so we could make their lives better.
Oh, and of course because we were different.
Maybe it´s this fact that pis.ses off humans that much about people like us. Exactly that fact. That they´re not like us.
Be-... Brother tried to show them what we were capable off. They acted so good-willing. They were surprised, some even applauded. He was so done on that evening af.ter he used his powers. He had moved a whole house af.ter all. With just his mind.
I looked up and glanced at him. His forehead was glistening in the dim light of the evening-sun. He still was tired. One could also see it on his eyes. Deep shadows lay under them.
"Allistair... Can you promise me something?" Brother looked at me, af.ter he stared at the others. Azzazel was looking for a way, his eyes closed, his face already covered in sweat too. Only his mind was wandering around, looking for a safe place./..

.../Abaddon was sitting right next to Baphomet, just stroking over the head of the youngest of us.
"I´m afraid... I´m really afraid one of us could get hurt." Azzazel opened his eyes again, looking back at me. He silently shook his head. I screamed internally.
"Please watch over them." I just stared at him. The one of us who always told us to be serious said this to me. Why? Why couldn´t we just keep running, until we got away again. Just like we did back then. Just like ten years ago.
"He´s right", my oldest brother said, staring at the light of the torches drawing closer. They caught our track. It wouldn´t be long now until they caught up. I grinded my teeth again. Why, why, why? Why were these stupid people so intollerant? Why couldn´t they just have accepted us? Let us help them? I swore at this moment that I´d never understand them.
"Keep them safe, alright?" He smiled. Brother smiled at me as he looked back over his shoulder. Then he started walking./...

.../"W-what the fu.ck do you think you´re doing, dipsh.it?!", Azzazel shouted, grabbing his shoulder af.ter a few quick steps. I looked at brother as he turned aound, gazing at Baphomet. The boy was almost crying, his hazel eyes shimmering.
"Please understand, Allistair... You are the closest thing I ever got to family since my father left. I... I just want you all to live." With that he turned around and started running.
"WAIT UP YOU A.SSHOLE!" Azzazel wanted to storm right up behind him, but stopped at the last moment to look back. "Allistair. You are the oldest of us. Please... keep an eye on them. And for go.d´s sake, please... go." He almost whispered the last word, then he started following the oldest of us. Storming right into the direction of the lights that drew closer. I could hear a distant scream and the sound of weapons meeting each other. Unable to say anything, I just turned around, looking at what was left of my family./...

.../Abaddon was hugging Baphomet, who clearly broke out into tears by now.
"You heard them." My voice sounded cold. Colder than I ever thought it could be.
"Get up. We need to go. They said they´d catch on later, so they will." They´ll better do so, I added in thought. How should I ever face my brothers again if I just would´ve run now without at least saving the two of them? I gulped down the scream that tried to emerge from my throat. And the tears that wanted to fill my eyes. Why.
"Baphomet, come on. We´ll be safe soon, okay?" Abaddons calm voice helped at least a bit. The boy got up, still sobbing. I started walking at a fast pace, always keeping an eye on them. We had to get out of here.
For our brother´s sake.
I looked back. The lights were still were they were stopped, but the sound of fighting became less. Hopefully they would fight back on back so just a few would be able to attack them at a time.
My ears catched a scream.
And in this moment I knew they would never return./...

.../I didn´t even try to hide my tears anymore by now. I just wanted to bring them away from here.
Especially Baphomet. He was still a child. Why were they hunting even him? He was still innocent. And he was the one who finally got us to show the humans.
"There." Abaddon pointed at an old house. Rather an old shabrack than a house by now. We knew it. When we were younger we always played in it. Hide and Seek. Or Marco Polo. I gulped. Yes, we could hide there. It was pretty big and had some broad doars. Maybe it once was a villa of some rich guy.
I just nodded. The noises were drawing closer again. Horse were neighing. I opened the front door to let my younger brothers in. Then we ran down the hallway. This would at least slow them down a bit. Or so we thought.
A splintering sound behind me reminded me that they would not stop by just a wooden door. I picked up Baphomet and carried him so we´d be faster. Arrows started flying. One hit the stairs right next to Abaddon´s head./...

.../We took a turn into another hallway, running down the corridor until we reached a big, iron winged door. I turned around, letting Baphomet down and raising my hands. The door started closing as I moved them.
It took a lot of energy, but at least this was faster then closing it just normally. An arrow flew through the door.
Gasping, I stared down as a sharp pain hit me. There it was, sticking out of my side. With a scream I finished closing the door before I fell down, gripping the shaft.
"Sh.it... sh.it... for fu.cks sake, why?!", I heard myself shouting. Someone rammed the door, but it only creaked at one person trying to move it.
Abaddon stepped up to the two iron wings of the gate.
"Allistair." I looked up, breathing heavily. The drain of energy and the wound took their tribute way too fast.
"...What?" He looked at the door and it´s wide angles. Then he stepped up to it, his back pressed against the door as more of them bumped against it./...

.../He put his hands through the doorgrips, putting them together again on the other side of the wide handles. He was blocking the door with his body.
"Abaddon, stop it. This will only hurt you. The door can hold them off for about a minute, but only if we run now." My face must have been covered with dirt and tears by then, but still I did not want to give up.
"...It will do so longer if I stop them."
"Are you insane?! Our brothers already charged at them to make sure we´d escape! Don´t throw your life away, you id-" I couldn´t speak any longer as my lungs filled up with blood. I coughed, spilling it on the old, brown carpet.
"No... Please...", I heard Baphomet whimper. He had always been especially close with Abaddon. We all were brothers by name, but they also acted like they would´ve been so since birth.
"Please. Flee." Staring at Abaddon´s stoic face, I wasn´t able to talk anymore. I saw how he crossed his fingers.
"Gordian knot", he mumbled. An incantation./...

.../He made his hand stick together. Insaparable by strength.
"You... Why... why?" I sobbed shortly, standing up, staggering. Then I grabbed Baphomet.
"No... NO! Abaddon!", he screamed as I had to carry him away. The pain was almost unbearable, but somehow I managed to put it away.
There was a pain much bigger than this inside me right now.
I turned around one last time, hearing my youngest brother cry beside my ear.
Abaddon smiled. He smiled. Never before had I seen a smile on his face, but right now, he seemed to be happy.
Because he thought he saved us.
Because he thought he´d buy time for us.
And over all, because he saw his little brother cry for him. Cry because he didn´t want to lose him. I bit my teeth until my jaw started to hurt too. And af.ter some time, all I could hear from behind wasn´t a scream.
But the sound of flesh being torn apart as they opened the door my brother blocked with his body.
I almost reached it. The back room. That was everything I could think of./...

.../There was a hole in the wall of the back room. And right behind it, the circle. The circle where we always stood, looking at each other, smiling. And then teleporting away together. To some place we wanted to visit. I reached the door and passed it. Baphomet was sill just crying, unable to say a word. I looked up.
And with one strike, all hope faded away. The hole. It was gone. The old wall has crumbled, falling down and blocking the way. We were trapped. We couldn´t go anywhere. I fell onto my knees.
"No", I whispered, staring. Baphomet fell down as my arms were too weak to carry him any longer. He looked at me. He looked at me with his hazel, innocent eyes. Eyes filled with panic and fear.
"This is a nightmare, right?", he whispered, crawling on the floor until his back meet the wall.
I could hear laughter behind me.
They were laughin. LAUGHING. Why by all that´s holy were they laughing?! Why would they want to see us suffer that much?
I stood up and turned around./...

.../"Oh look. The monster is crying. Didn´t know they were able to do that." They dared to call ME a monster? Who was it that was hunting down someone to kill them? Someone who´d never done anything to harm them?
"Please... let him live", I begged with the bit of voice and strenght I had left.
They laughed. One of them walked up towards Baphomet. The boy was just sitting there, staring at the ground. Did he still think it was just a nightmare? If it was one, I just wanted to wake up. Why would a dream put me through he.ll? What had I ever done wrong?
"This one?" A man stepped up towards my brother, looking at him. "Really doesn´t seem like one of you guys."
I took a deep breath. Maybe at least he´d survive.
The man raised his sword and swung it down. With a scream I jumped, guarding my youngest brother with my arm.
Another sharp, stinging pain flew through my body. My arm twitched as it hit the ground right next to me. I fell down, screaming up loudly.
They laughed./...

Baphomet opened his mouth, but nothing came out of it. My blood was splattered across his face, me lying in front of him. Screaming in pain.
They laughed.
One of them gripped my hair, pulling up my head and dragging me away from him.
"No... Don´t...", I managed to whisper. But they just kept laughing.
I saw how another one raised his axe. I saw the eyes of my brother as he smiled at me.
"I´ll wake up, right?", I heard him saying in another language.
Then I saw how the axe splitted his head open, the blood spladdering around. I closed my eyes, releasing a short, dimmed scream.
No.
Please.
Why.
Why are you doing this to us.
I felt something stabbing my stomach. Barfing up blood, I was raised on the lance they rammed into my body. And so I hung there, my arm severed, my side shot, up shere they all could see my body.
I heard them laugh.
Through the beat of my own heart getting weaker, I still heard them laugh.
And thrn it hit me.
Why.
Because we were different./...

.../Slowly, everything faded in front of my eyes.
This was the moment my heart stopped beating.
Filled with that one sole regret.
That I hadn´t sent them all to he.ll when I had the chance.
The last words emerging from my lifeless lips was my wish towards them. To go what I´ve been through.
The fires of he.ll.
And I prayed to the devil in this moment.
"Burn. Burn them all."

27 years later
Mid-territory
Morning

I open my eyes as I hear the birds chirping outside. With a yawn, I raise my body, looking around for a moment. Oh, right. I slept in that cave tonight. Hadn´t found anything else yesterday. With a sigh I stand up without using my arm. Then I step outside.
"Ah... what a beautiful day to do nothing at all", I cheeringly say. Hopefully there just wouldn´t be some humans to ruin it.
I start walking, whisteling a song as I pin up my empty left shirt-arm. It has no use for me af.ter all.
It was time to see what scum I could clean off the surface of this world./...

.../My name is Allistair.
I died 27 years ago, along with my brothers.
The youngest, a Seeker. I see him running around somewhere on my right.
The brother who now keeps his name for himself, fixing the tie of his suit next to the cave-entrance.
The middle one, sitting there and watching Baphomet with a smile.
The brother who´s always serious. Looking into the heaven to tell today´s weather.
Me, the oldest. Looking around at all my brothers.

We are the five devils of the Phoenix.
