magic is genetic and can be passed on and 'mixed'. there are 5 elements: earth, air, fire, water & spirit. these are rarely found in their pure forms and magic derived from these are a lot more common. eg, sand (air/earth), lava (fire/earth), steam (air/water). in human magi, they can only use their genetically determined magic. in mythic magi (wizard, faeries etc) they do have a genetically dominant magic, but can also learn other magic
