I think you kinda.......over-emphisized #1. I have aspergers, and if someone fell down the stairs I freak out and want to help them (but freak out too much to actually do so). However my little brother gave himself a bald spot, and that was funny. Sure, no empathy for silly mistakes, but I don't like seeing anyone in major pain. ono''
I never did think of autistic people as 'stupid', but l didn't really know what being autistic was so this was a good playback, thanks. It makes me so mad when people use 'autistic' as an insult or whatever. I'm sorry people get the wrong idea about something you can't change nor need to change.
I had a friend with Asperger's Syndrome when I was in nineth grade. She was a senior, and was really affable; not stupid at all. I think it's horrible for people to despise autistic people. I respect you guys :D
I'm proud of you- said the being that lacks any resemblance to a parental figure. Autism doesn't really have that good of a reputation and speaking openly about it must have taken guts to do. Of course, it appears you have plenty of people who support this, and it's really good to set things straight so everyone has the right idea.
It bothers me when people assotiate stupidity with autism and other things like that. Thank you for this, I found it interesting to hear from someone with experience talk about it. One of my cousins, I think he's in the first or second grade, he's autistic. He's practically the sweetest kid I know, but he has a bit of trouble explaining what he's thinking, forming the words on his tounge, but he has it all in his head. He catches onto things a bit slower in school as well. But it broke my heart to hear that he came home one day from school and said to his mom "Am I stupid?" It hurts to think the other kids have put that in his mind, because no one had ever called him that before...
thanks for this info, bby uvu I don't want to jump in and say I have Aspergers because I've never been diagnosed with it, but most of the things you've told me about it seem to line right up with my behavior. What really rubbed me the wrong way though was when my science teacher made us do brief presentations on genetic disorders; one kid did autism and another did Asperger's, but both of them basically re-stated your example of the wrong definition. :I
I tend to avoid people with Asperger's. All of the people whom I have met which have Asperger's are pretty much the same. Especially those in which who also have ADHD, along with Aspies. Though the main reason why I tend to avoid them is because, the people I have met, who have Asperger's simply don't know how to admit they're wrong. My nephew, he has Asperger's. (Although he claimes that he doesn't.) he won't EVER admit he's wrong. I'm serious. NEVER. Not even if you have evidence against him. And it was the same for 2 other people I met who have the disorder as well. I could go on and on but I'll just stop here. Oh and just to be clear, I'm not saying that all people with Asperger's are annoying and in denial. I was just using my past experience(s) as examples. Though to be honest, people with Asperger's should hang out with other people with the same disorder. For they can finally feel "understood".
Nice informitive drawing. Def 2O out of 1O. Best drawing since toast. All sarcasm aside, this is cool. You should make more of these within the future.
Thing is, Nick LvL 3, that's kinda a generalization, although admitting mistakes is difficult for the autistic. Of course, those that are open about having it will usually not work to fix disabilities. There may be people who you associate that have the condition and just haven't told you.
That said, saying that they should only associate with others with the same disorder is really quite ignorant. First of all, saying that about any minority creates gaps between them and the rest of the population. Contrary to popular misconception, people with autism DO NOT understand others with the condition. That's one of the symptoms of the condition.
I don't mind people with aspergers or any other special conditions actually. They don't annoy me in any kind or such and usually I'm willing to talk to anyone. I'm a socially akward person, I can't socialise well with people, so I'm happy if someone comes to me to talk. I can handle many types of people, and I won't back away from them only because they have a disorder or stuff like that. That's why I can't understand people who do back away and don't want to talk to them at all just because of it. No matter if they have a disorder(or even a disease like diabetis, cancer or anything) they deserve a chance to be socially integrated, not only by ones with the same disorder (or disease). But sadly people have too many prejudgments with such things...
I was originally diagnosed with something called sensory processing disorder, but that diagnosis was changed to aspergers in 6th grade. ... anyway, it absolutely P.ISSES ME OFF when ever i see someone compare autism to stupidity and r.etardedness. the people who say that are just ignorant, sometimes they don't even try to be mean when they say that, but their ignorance can anger me just as well.
... Just for the record, I really want to say thank you. I've been a bit shy wanting to post my thanks here, but seeing more and more people caring...thank you. Autism, to me, is actually a gift, a really special "ability". It makes me ponder why do people want for us to be normal? We can all agree that autism cannot go away, but not too many people will think that this is a good condition. Thank you so much for caring about us and speaking out.
Guess what? Bet you never saw this coming... cx But I have Asperger's too! Along with ADHD, OCD, and Tourette's Syndrome. I found this funny, but autism is different in everyone (even if you're on the same area of the spectrum), and we'll have some different quirks. I have most of yours, though. xp
Looking back on this painting, I realize that I was quite immature on my viewpoint(s) in my comments above. As of recent I've encountered many more people that have Asperger's, some of which I'm willing to call my friends to this day.

This is really informative! Now I wonder if I should come out as autistic yet.
Oh wait.

Never mind, I don't think the world's ready to know I have Apserger's, yet.
I gained a lot of respect for you, though.

I have similar quirks to you, but mine are influenced by my OCD, DID, and other things.
