Hoo boy (no pun intended), okay, I'll explain. These are the three main characters from a story I'm currently writing. I had an idea for a TV show about raptors in a rehabilitation center, but, well, writing is WAY easier and less expensive than animating, and I can't animate, anyway. So there will be a bunch of stories about these guys (and many others!) in place of episodes.

Also, how do you manage texturing and lighting so well?

Hmmm, well, for little details like their facial discs and edge of the feathers, I use the soft brush and a lot of different shades. For lighting, I mostly just shade where I think it's necessary and maybe add a little bit of lighter color where I don't shade. If you want, you can always watch the playback and/or copy this painting and zoom in to see the details :)
Also, I agree. Owls are THE best organisms!
