Metal Sonic had kidnapped her. Sonic had to race against Metal, where eventually, Metal loses the race and Sonic frees Amy.

Actually she reading a tarot card telling of a destined encounter with Sonic. she was later captured in Collision Chaos Zone 1 then Sonic Rescues her in Stardust Speedway Zone 3 after the race with Metal Sonic.
