He can't really come to terms with his adoption, and he doesn't want to know who his parents were because he feels abandoned by them. This is why he tries to keep such a close relationship with Shade; sharing a house, including her in everything, knitting her stuff, ect. She's the closest thing to a family he has, and he's terrified of losing her.
