Being (part) rattlesnake, Salamander has fangs and venom. He has the curtesy give a "dry" bite in self defense, but won't hold back if he feels his life is honestly threatened. Despite this, he is very hesitant to tell you just how many people he has bitten.

Fun fact- venomous snakes can control their fangs independantly.

Yeah, among anthros, I'd imagine it'd be kinda' like being double-jointed/contortionist; most people probably think it looks painful or gross while having some sort admiration for the ability.
