Jumphawk and Ryetail weren't always mates. As apprentices, they were arch rivals, constantly competing for best hunter, most skilled fighter, it became confusing to the other apprentices as well as their mentors. When they became warriors, they realized that their immense rivalry was just their hidden love for each other. Now, they are as happy as can be, raising Quailpaw, Newtpaw, Strikepaw, and Thistlepaw.
