He found the secret of zombie... ness, thought he fell in love, his love shot him for the secret, maybe it kept him alive, maybe the glove was for gunshot residue, maybe he learned enough to be a test subject, and the glove was to avoid pre-zombie blood. Either way, the broken ankle is a doorway for a doctor to be romantic.
