"I'm glad I had time to catch up with you," Shadow panted as she sat down beside Alukard. She had just come off of a patrol, it looked like. "I've been meaning to speak with you."
Alukard turned towards her, eyes bright, giving her his full attention. "I'm all ears, m'lady." He meowed happily. They were about to jump into conversation when a darker shadow approached. Shen. He called to the Silver Hunter.
"Shadow! Thanatos has called a meeting. It's urgent." His gaze flicked lovingly at her to scornful at him. Shadow sighed and got to her feet. "Of course," She flicked an ear in irritation. "Thank you, Shen." She dipped her head to Alu, her eyes regretful and apologizing, and padded away. Alukard got to his paws to follow, but Shen stopped him.
"Sorry, cub." He sneered. "Elites only." Alukard glared at him definitely, but before the orange tiger could speak, Shen added. "And don't waste your time chasing /my/ Shadow. There's a reason she still wears the metal cuff /I/ gave her." He smirked in contempt and turned his back to catch up with the silver hunter, twining his tail with hers. He glanced over his shoulder at Alukard to be sure he had seen. Alukard wished he hadn't. Shen was right. What hope did he really have to keep winning Shadow's affection when she was second in command of the hunters and he was just that; a hunter? A nobody? Maybe she /was/ better off with someone as highly ranked as she...?
