Rorschach by sword_and_ink

Something I've wanted to do ever since I saw Watchmen. It's not perfect, and I need to work on my textures.. But I'm actually satisfied with it. A rare case with most of my art.. (It looks so much better on the DS screen) YouTube version available, watch it before it gets taken down due to "copyright violations" ..YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME

dude this is extremely fantastic. I remember you saying you wanted a high detail picture--this thing is blu-ray detailed.

great texture, nice composition, awesome. I actually worked on the film so it always makes me happy to see more Watchmen art being done.

Totally loving Rorschach and the use of blue/grey bounce lighting on the fabric. When you speak of texture, I think you have done a first rate job on the overcoat, but have possibly gone too far with the background and rain effect, which I think you have overworked somewhat. This makes the image lose some of it's depth and also the punch of the texture on the character. I looked at the playback and can only recommend blocking in the whole picture with big brushes first and then working smaller and concentrating on the parts of the image that you want the viewer to focus on. I don't follow this approach as often as I should, but it might help you with your texture balance.

Further... I assume this is from a reference image? If so, then you might be falling into the trap of being a slave to the original - which would explain the overworking. Still, that trenchcoat texture is so horny! :)

@munin: thanks for the advice. Yeah I used the DVD as reference and I initially wanted to leave the back ground somewhat blurry but it would have looked weird to me :P and yeah I think I overdid the background but it looked better on the ds. @evan: LOL glad you like it :D
@chaos: you worked on the film?? Really? Awesome, what area of the film did you work on? @lamgelus: the song I use on the YouTube video is copyrighted and wmg is on my my ass about it. I wanted to use it bc it provides the perfect setting, but it will probably get muted.

@SPEC: This is very detailed painting. Don't worry about the copyright issues. Maybe about 95% of the videos on Youtube have infringed on someone's copyright or trademark at some time or another. I hope your video doesn't get taken down. :)

@karl: really? lol awesome :D Which one was it that got your attention first? Thanks for commenting. @Inque: Thanks! I had my Joker video removed because of copyright and a bunch of others blocked in certain countries. Most, however, were muted, including this one. It was muted as soon as I uploaded it but I was able to keep the song because I disputed the copyright claim. I don't know how long it'll be there though.
