I do much like the shine of its ebony shell :D And when you think about it, the slime is basically just volital meucus. (Did I spell that right)

I think how it works is that the pounders on his arms have a speacial coating, that when comes into contact with his mucas, has a sort of chemical reaction that causes it to explode when it comes into contact with other things beside the pounders.
