Personally, I don't think you really need to put SO MUCH detail into your backrounds. Don't get me wrong, it always looks incredible, but the main subject usually overshadows most of the fine points of your lineart, making all that detail very unnoticable.

Maybe try something with simpler geometry, and see how that turns out.

But above all, do what works for you.
