Zelda is the princess of the kingdom Link has to save all the time. Of course the series is named after the damsel in distress, not the random kid in green clothes whose name YOU choose at the beggining of every single game. "The Legend of Zelda" sounds a lot better than "The Legend of Insert Your Name Here"
