Hi
Very cool!
Lots of questions:
are they related to dioxels? I also noticed that they live a lot longer than dioxels. Why is this? Why are they green colorblind? What does the color change that happens as they age do?
23 Aug, 2014, 9:48 pm
Oh, I missed the part about maturity. The color change says they are ready to have babies?
New question
Why does it take so long for them to mature?

@inca
Not at all. Dioxels are one of their main preditors. Dioxels are mammals but lay eggs (like platypi and echidnas), while chastos give live birth (like the vast majority of mammals).
In dioxels, the jelly-like substance that fills their 'gems' to make them illuminate are highly toxic. This slowly k!lls the dioxel until they reach ten years of age and mysteriously die.
The chastos live in mostly green areas where the red and blue insects they prey on can be difficult to spot. With reds and blues amplified and greens highly dulled - if not completely erased - they can easily pick out their fast-moving and highly dangerous (dello are almost as big as they are with super strong pincers) meals.
Dolts (the males) are the only ones to undergo this life-long process. The brighter their chests are, the closer they are to s.exual maturity, and the gists know how to tell the difference by using the brighter and more attractive colors as a guideline.

Chastos have interesting lives in which the dolt mates one to two times before dying, and the gists mate only one time before death. Gists have one to two piiks in their litter and she cares for them for approx. 8-l5 years before they are forced on their own due to their mother's death at about fifty years. Single piiks have a much lower survival rate than siblings because the siblings stay together for about 2O years for a brother and sister or brother pair, and about 26 years for a sister pair. They seperate to look for a mate, but gists tend to stay together in small groups.

Thats really awesome! Your species are always so creative.

Is there a way to tell what the age of a female is by appearance?
24 Aug, 2014, 12:01 am
One more, about dioxels. If there was some way for a dioxel to be missing their gems, how long would they live?
24 Aug, 2014, 2:38 am
Thanks. ewe
The females grow two extra teeth in their throats at about 20 years, but that doesn't tell much about their age. e-e
They wouldn't. The toxic fluid would be trapped in their blood and they'd be dead before they hatched. The toxins come from the prey they eat. I should really make a food chain thing

Their colors are neat! :D
