After Carina returned home to her middle sized two storey house, she took a seat at the oak wood table.
She began to study the colourful piece of card in her hands. It was a deep red with swirls of a golden colour running along the edge. In the middle, printed in bold white letters read "The Ultimate Survival Games".
On the back was a very small list of instructions. She had to take the number thirteen train (of all the numbers) from Witherville Station at 6:00pm on Friday.
It was Wednesday now so that gave Carina a day to prepare. She also had to ensure she took the card-the invitation- with her and presented it to those concerned.
That night, it took Carina what seemed like forever to get to sleep. The memories of the day rushed through her mind, but weren't anywhere near as fast as the predictions of what lay ahead. But not one prediction Carina came up with was even remotely close to what the future had in store for her and twenty three others. Unbeknown to them all, they would become puppets and the game master would be pulling the strings

Carina was now standing on the platform waiting for the number thirteen train to slow down to a stop as it arrived.
The train was of medium size. It was a deep silver with orange, gold and jet black stripes running across it's sides beneath the darkened windows. They were the kind that anyone outside had difficulty seeing past them, while those on the inside could see the outside world clearly.
Overall the train was somewhat out of place in the small station. The woman that stepped out of it was even more so. Dressed in a deep red uniform, she approached Carina. "May I see your invitation?" She asked.

Carina nodded and held up the card.
Just seeing it must have been enough for the woman.
"Right this way" she told her and walked back to the train's open door.

Carina followed her inside. The door closed behind her.
Shortly after, the number thirteen train pulled out of Witherville station, with no intention to return.

The train's three hour long journey had not ended at a station, but surprisingly at the actual venue of the event- Battlemount.
The stadium was at least three times the size of Witherville's. The front part of the building was smaller than the massive area behind it. The front part was where the living area, training area and anything else along those lines could be found. The large building behind it was the arena.

After their arrival, the uniformed woman explained all of this as she lead Carina to one of the upper floors of the smaller building. On that floor was a long hallway of doorways to apartments, twenty four in total.
Carina was given the key to one of them.
"Once you're ready, please make your way down to the main hall" the woman instructed.
"Ok, will do. Thank you" Carina answered with a smile.
However she got none in return. The woman's expression remained neutral. However, sorrow and pity seemed to quickly flash across her pale green eyes. She simply nodded and left the room, closing the door behind her.

As Carina made her way down the wide staircase, she could literally feel the energy of the main hall. And when she pushed open one of the double doors, she saw why.
The high-ceilinged room was full of people. Carina counted twenty two in all. Some sat at tables in small groups. She recognised some of them. They were practically celebrities. Jordan also known as CaptainSparklez was sitting along with a man in a Batman costume. Ryan. There were many other famous minecraftians like Adam, Ty, Bodil, but the spotlight was on someone in the centre of the room. Surrounded by a large crowd, Mitch, the BajanCanadian, was standing proud and tall on a table with his best friend Jerome by his side.
It became clear to Carina and quite a few others that this battle was going to be a tough one. Mitch and Jerome were two of the best players around.

Not the biggest fan of crowds, no matter who was at the centre of it, Carina took a seat at an empty table. She saw one of the doors open slowly. A girl with light brown hair who looked roughly Carina's age gingerly stepped inside. She didn't seem to want to leave the safety of the door.

"Hm, she must be on her own too" Carina thought

The girl glanced over and caught Carina's eye. Carina gave her a small wave and a smile. The girl waved back. Carina tapped the empty seat beside her in response. She hesitated, but walked over and sat down.
"Hi, I'm Carina" she greeted and held out a gloved hand.

"Hello, my names E" the girl answered and shook Carina's hand.
"It's nice to meet you E" Carina replied.

That was all they had a chance to say. The other people had either fell silent or whispered among themselves. The crowd had dispersed and everyone was now seated. All eyes had turned to the stage at the back of the room. At the centre of it stood a man dressed in black.
The game master.

"Good evening everyone! And welcome to Battlemount! I'd like to thank you all for accepting my invitation to this very special event. The Ultimate Survival Games!" his voice boomed from the microphone.
Some people cheered in response, but quickly quietened down, allowing the game master to continue.
"Yes I understand you're all more than ready for this, but I shall explain things fully before the games start. For there is a little something different about this match" he continued.
"Something different? What?" a melon man with a floral shirt asked.

The game master smiled. There was something sinister to his expression.
"You'll find out soon enough. Now you all have an early start and big day ahead of you so I suggest you get some rest. Goodnight" he finished on a high, giving his audience a wave as he went off stage.

Carina lay in her temporary bed. She was extremely tired but couldn't seem to get to sleep.
"Something different? What could be?" she thought and rolled onto her side.
She couldn't shake the feeling of unease. Maybe it was just her, but there was something about the game master that was a little off. What did he have in store for them in this game?
"I'll find out tomorrow I guess" Carina thought as she allowed the dark to take over.
She drifted into sleep, but it was an uneasy one.
