I think what's disturbing is that what happens in the story could totally happen in real life. Such is the evil of human nature.

Yes, all of that is intriguing. At the beginning, Roger found pleasure at tossing pebbles near the littleuns. Never to hit though, because he still had the idea that to hurt was wrong. Hm, I'm having trouble remembering, but wasn't Roger also throwing sand into Percival's eyes? He stopped when Percival began crying, because it reminded him of a time he had been reprimanded for doing something similar, but once the crying stopped he started throwing sand again.

Children are probably more susceptible to the loss of morals when no one is there to reinforce them, or at least a boy like Roger is. Now I wonder...would anything be different if the boys were older? Or perhaps it would be even worse, because...teenagers.

I hated this movie. Had to watch it after i read the book. i wanted to yell so many terrible things @ them for acting so dumb. T-T

^ Hm, yes. But I think the truth is that any of us would begin to behave like that, in such a situation. Especially with someone like Jack attempting to lead...and someone is always a Jack.

I can tell you that, knowing myself, I would have put all my efforts into building the shelters, keeping the fire going, etc. But when conflict arose, I wouldn't know what to do. I'm not a leader type. And sometimes it's easier just to follow the leader. Not because you agree, but because they're the *leader*. Simon attempted to assert himself at one meeting and got laughed at, and afterwards didn't try again. I can relate to Simon most, actually.

It's been forever since I've read this book, and I didn't understand any of it since I was so young...perhaps it would be wise to read it again.

Piggy was my favorite. I was so upset when he died.

Tang- I had to read it in English. You have to think about it to fully understand it...

Nel- Piggy probably stayed the most on track. Except he stopped working on the shelters and then Simon and Ralph were the only ones working... Anyway, I was sad too.

(Silent opinion that anyone who said "LOL" has not read this book)

Ah, I remeber reading this book a couple years ago. It really got me thinking about the true nature of man. Well I believe mankind is born "evil" as we are born into the world w/ sin. And as one can observe from a small child, the usual first wrd that comes from their mouths are "mine". Of course, I believe also that man already knows what's right or wrong as it's written in their hearts (it says something like that in the book of Romans I think) but man just mainly choose to do what seems more desirable to them. And, I agree that I didn't like Jack... :/
But, oh man, I felt really sad for Piggy and Simon....
