While fighting the Witch Soma and his Meister where gravly wounded and Soma's Meister eventually d!ed while still trying to fight the Witch for their 1OOth Soul. That in turn left Soma lost and broken. Long story short Soma did take the Witch's Soul and became a Death Scythe.
