^ Uuhh, basically, laws of the universe. Although there are still things we haven't figured out yet, but then, just before the lunar landing, people thought we'd never make it to the moon. Or before Europeans discovered tthe Americas, they thought the world was flat. Just because you don't know better, doesn't mean it's always what you think.
also to consider, it's only the majority who though the world was flat, but those travelling on the sea for instance, knew the world wasn't flat, simply cause when you navigate, on the water, during "calm day" if earth was flat, you could see the land even from far away, but those on the sea knew they couldn't so they based on the stars to know where on earth they were.
