Anyway, this painting is a tribute to Granny, the oldest #orca alive today: she's 103 years old! She is the matriarch of J pod, which consists of about seventy members,made up of her children,grandchildren,great grand children,great great grandchildren,and other k.iller whales she oh-so-kindly took in.She cares deeply for every single one and has done a lot of baby-sitting. cx Granny has also cared for other creatures. #underwater #dolphin #cetaceannation

She's not an OC and does exist, and is likely to give SeaWorld a run for their money (they claim that their orcas have been capable of living up to over 40 years of age, though in Blackfish the marine mammal trainers state that their life span is shorter than that and that "noone knows for sure how long orcas can live." But Granny is quite an example that can provide an answer.

Yep! Orcas' maximum lifespans are similar to ours, though today, with pollution, being trapped in nets and the like, males now usually only live about 30 years and females around 60. So it's thrilling to know there's at least one out there who's still around after over a century!

Mine, too! ^-^ They're such beautiful, amazing, intelligent creatures! I also love the dolphins and porpoises about just as much! But don't worry: there's another h.umpback whale painting on the way! ; )

I'm so glad you've seen Blackfish. Everyone who loves orcas should watch it. These are intelligent, emotional creatures and sea worl has basically ensIaved them. No wonder Tillikum went off his nut and kiIIed three people. If they had been left in the wild, no one would ever have been ded.
