Characters for #CDcontest. I hope I did this right.
I was trying to focus on fish that lived in the Great Barrier reef (or at least around Australia) here. So we have an electric eel gal (Yes, I know they live in a different area) , a Spanish dancer guy, and a leafy seadragon princess. I planned on making a snake guy from the aboriginal Dreamtime stories, but it didn't work out the way I wanted it to. (You can see I had quite a bit of trial and error in the playback.
They have indigo-purple blood from the water and cold temperatures. (And maybe lack of oxygen? 'Cause that's what creates red blood cells? I dunno.)
Most civilians are treasure hunters, looking for gold and other various valuables at the bottom of the reef. They trade their findings with the other nations, who supply things like food and the dive suits to them. Their government is a monarchy, and a new supreme sovereign is elected every 30 years. There are four different districts of the reef, and a royal family for each. The election is a rite of passage in which the eldest child of each of the royal families is put to a test to receive a pearl from a giant clam in a massive trench. Whoever manages to steal it first is crowned the prince or princess of the reef. They have a quiet society, and prefer to talk out issues with the other nations than to go to war. Most commonly live in coral houses that they build in the reef.
Spanish dancers are a type of sea slug.
