I'm no big Sonic fan, but I'm pretty sure Amy couldn't keep up with Sonic. She does in Sonic Boom, from what I've seen, but I heard it's not in the official universe. There is the possibility Sonic isn't trying, knowing his personality, that's probably the case.
No, it's not necessary to consider logic, and canon to fanart.
