I had this idea about crystalized ponies, and I drew it out. They were originally regular Earth ponies and Unicorns that were exiled to underground caves by Celestia (For some reason I haven't decided on) about 1000 years ago, and have been working as miners ever since. In fact, most of Equestria's gemstones was mined out by one of these ponies. After living in the caves for so long, the crystal fragments in the walls have become part of their body. They have grown functional hands and clawed feet, and can use things like pencils or pickaxes. There are no gemstone Pegasi, as they would be to heavy to fly. Most have earthy coloured coats, and the gems can be any colour. Manes are a darker colour of said gems. They also have tails with a tuft of fur at the end.
