Why me? by Viridi

I f.u.c.king hate it when I ask someone how to draw decently and they just say "practice" without any sort of ellaboration or anything.

I saw your gallery, quite interesting, you add details on your characters, but have difficulty to copy, some of your old character got nice details, there's 2 ways to draw, one is traced, basicly you just add colors on a shape, like you draw a circle and add colors and there, look as anything, use an eraser often when you go over the line, the 2nd way is cutting like a stone, you take a color and sculte it, act like someone who cut a rock, you pick one color, then with an eraser or another colors, you "cut" your paint, the traced is when you want to copy something, perfectly while cutting is when you build something new in your head.

there's multiple way to train your dexterity in order to improve, there's 3 ways which are most communs, and 2 uncommuns to get better at drawing, there's some rare ways too, but only for professional, first way to train your dexterity, take pen and twist between your finger, slowly at first until you do without thinking about it, 2nd way, take something heavy and lift it with your arms, the arm that lift it easily, use it to draw, but keep lifting the heavy weight, that will increase your strength, just need to lift once or two for higher strength, more if you want stamina, strength, will allow you to move faster the pen to draw. so you can draw anything in your head instantly, stamina will increase the amount of draw you can do in a day, cause yeah normal body need rest sometime, mustn't forget that, unless you're a human robot, 3rd way, play race games at high speed, that will improve your dexterity, so you can draw perfect lines, don't worry if you hit walls at first, sometime

don't concern about being first in a race, just practice to drive, that will improve your dexterity, between your eyes and your fingers, sometime if you can, try to film your finger while you race, so that you see if you have some fingers that don't move as your head told them, that will reveal which finger to play with the pen more often, coins can work too if you have no pen, that's the three commun ways to practice your fingers, the first uncommun, see a picture you like that didn't use a reference, in colors, press play to see how the artist did his paint, look at the tools he use in slow motion and don't hesitate to press pause to see more clearly what the player used, the 2nd uncommun way, do one draw using only one tool, don't worry if the draw is terrible, but for instance you pick the circle pen at big size, then pick one color to draw, it can be just a blue rectangle, then do another but with smaller size, and there you practice to learn how to use all the tools.

the rare ways are for professional, that's when you brain and fingers are in perfect "symbiose" like a clown who throw ton of balls and such, that's some way to practice, but it requires the "aptitude" to practice with those rare ways, but I can give you an easy example, draw a circle on a paper, only one circle on one paper, then pick a hundred of paper and draw the same exact circle at exact same place a hundred of time, that's an example to practice, as you can see the "aptitude" here is that you have high stamina. another rare way, you climb a wall or a mountain, usually recommend with a specialist in case you fall, the "aptitude" here is high strength, stamina and dexterity, you may wonder how climb wall can improve my draws, well that's what we call "coordination" so that your brain and your arm move at same rythm, there's other rare ways if you're interest to know, but as I wrote, it requires "aptitude" to use those ways to practice.

For the hand-writing part you could try to imitate a specific font (like comic sans, ariel etc. whatever floats your boat) . Some of my friends were taught to always write a specific way, as opposed to learning what the letters looked like first and than writing them out on your own. Look up worksheets on writing out the alphabet letters, I'm sure you got those sort of things as a kid but if you're serious about improving you're handwriting you could relearn that stuff.

My guess is as to why most don't elaborate on that is they might just think you're only complimenting them and don't actually want a serious answer. As for me personally, I don't do anything special, if I see a style I like, I just try to imitate it in my own way, also I notice repetition makes a big difference. I stopped drawing regularly for a few months and when I started again, my hand had to get used to it all over again. I'm not really one to ask though considering I'm self-taught, still learning and only a hobby-ist, not professional.

That's also why I didn't know what to say when you asked me since I don't think I draw "well" to begin with. I'm sorry if I seemed jerky for not saying anything man. :/ Anyway, despite the fact that I don't think I'm very good, there is one thing I take alot of comfort in. It's the fact that technically, there is no such thing as "good" or "bad" art. Everyone has different interpretations of what's good or bad is. My interpretation of good art is first and foremost what the art represents or what it means to the creator. That's why my overall goal is to make symbolic art. Sometimes though (well ALOT of the time) I get caught up in caring about what everyone else (the "normal people")thinks is good or pretty, even though their opinion is irrelevant and just draw to please them....and then I hate myself for it.

What I'm trying to say is, if you want to improve yourself, that's great, but do it because you want to, not because you think you have to be like other people. Because even if you can draw like picasso it won't mean anything if you're not truly happy with yourself. You'll never be satisfied that way. But if it's what you really want, go for it and try your best :D Now you know what? I'm going to take my own advise too lol. Don't be upset if you're not getting attention on colors, cause that part is more about luck than talent, I've come across tons of under-appreciated artists with professional work, but barely a few likes, that doesn't mean that their art was bad at all. So cheer up you!
p.s my handwriting irl is way worse than yours k cx Alot of people I know who can draw tend to have messy handwriting.

Now I've talked too much, you better be serious about this, I just poured my heart out to you so you'd feel better :u
