You went remarkably far without reference. Lovely work. As a piece itself, if seems like it's at the point where no further work is necessary. Though I suppose refining it even further would certainly be in order, if you want this one to stand out some more.
Thank you :) I used to always paint with a standard round hard brush at around 50% opacity, to practice shading and blending, but lately I've been using the soft brush at same setting instead because it's quicker (can also go ugly faster, so be careful) . I start off with a large brush, to make a general "out of focus" shape, then scale down to sharpen it up as I go along. Not all areas need to be perfectly sharp. I usually color the background grey first though, to make the shade and color balance easier to work out. Simple is usually better. Good luck in your painting :) u

All thought I dont find your panting lacking symmetry or emotion, i actually think the girl look very real, the shine and shade on her face is great and i can read her eyes, to me it feels like she is missing someone, or maybe missing a special time in her life. I wish i could paint as realistic as you freehand!
