Duuuude! Stop being modest! The background looks great. I was actually about to ramble about the background until I read your description, haha. Even though the background's simple, I really love the colors! Also, speaking of colors, you did Athens' right! I dunno, people tend to make her too greenish or too bluish, heh.
TL;DR I love the colors in this. It makes my eyes happy. *-*

THAT BACKGROUND.
I have attempted to get 'that look' on many pics but never successfully did it. But you, you did, and did it wonderfully! That messy look is something I've been very fond of since I was a little kid and looked at pictures on cards and stuff.
Like athens said, the colors are great and athens' colors aren't too blue or greenish! This is a good mix of detail (athens, the grass, the butterfly on her muzzle) and simplicity (the other butterflies, background)
Definitely one of your best!
