When she woke up, the memories of her dark past had nearly faded away. She didn't even remember her name too well. She knew it ended id 'aard', but didn't know the beginning. She noticed a bone mask nearby, which had been crushed into small pieces during her slumber. The bone shards inspired her to call herself Shard. In one way or another, as she roved the land, she began to remember what she had done. Each memory was more and more v!olent and evil. Shard grew more and more afraid of her old self, more and more guilty of her past. She didn't want to go back to that dark self. Shard felt trapped and afraid. Eventually, with the help of other dragons she met, she felt better about the past and looked to the future.
Xeria taught her that sometimes, the dark things can be good things. You just need to look at it in the right way. Perception and what you make of things is truly important.

Poison Iris taught her that time really does heal all wounds. You can't keep the grim past in your thoughts. Push forward. In time, you will be stronger than ever before. You can't completely push it away, though. The past, with its good and bad, can motivate you to change your future.

The tale of Maugaard was still remembered when Shard awakened, but that made her want to push it away and change it. She managed to get humans to trust her. Now, she has the courage and self confidence to make up for her horrible past.
