while a stylus does help control, it only offers one intensity of stroke. Your touch screen is capacitive and can read how much pressure you are putting behind your strokes. as a preference, I use my stylus for hard outlining and minute details like eyes, but my finger for shading and lighting because it allows me to begin a stroke hard and end it light. So I say use both as I do.

I suggest using which ever works best for you. A stylus sure does help with control.
