This painting looks as if you could reach out and touch it. :) This is what I want to do in my own paintings.

Thanks everybody! The contrast looks way more obvious on the DS screen - on my computer screen he doesn't pop out as much... Any tips?

Have you tried painting with the screen brightness less than maximum? With darker paintings, I find it can be useful to work at 3/4 or even 1/2 brightness level.

Munin - I will try that. thanks for the advice!

@jaswinger: Don't get me wrong, it can still be a pain at times and is just one of those things you learn to take in to consideration like working plain air in bright sunlight and then finishing using photo references. It's not an exact science, but it's fun! :) In the case of Colors! I would suggest using the same tricks you might do in traditional painting - or even sketching - and try to establish some kind of dark contrast early on. Sometimes it's better to turn the preasure sensitivity off for a few strokes to begin with, but do you think I adhere to this honest advice? Fuck, no! That is not to say that it has no merritt. :) I learned many tricks from traditional plein air and also from a dodgy old monitor a few years ago. Some people like to distinguish, but during the last few years I've noticed that certain lighting problems are resolved the same way - digital or traditional. This is only my personal experience so I might be talking shit, but try it... you've got nothing to lose! ;) Oh, and sorry for the rant.

its funy... when i finish my draws in my iphone they look great, but when i transfer them to my computers they look like sh... without any contrast and clear...and i try using the screen brightness at medium or at maximum... i think that in maximum is better, but im getting blind!!!
by the way, i think this fish deserves mooooore stars!!!!! come on people!!!
