I'd like a fursuit of my own 'sona when I'm older, but this ain't about me xP

For what you want, I'm gonna say stay away from any single fanbase (other than furry, I guess). No MLP, and probably no Skyrim or Pokemon. You want something that'll appeal to the largest crowd you can get.

I'm thinking you wanna stay away from dark colors on your suit, too, so Nightheart Darkblood the Vampire wolf demon probably shouldn't be your suit (though I doubt you'd have a chara like that anyways).

I don't think it'd be a good idea to go with anything fox-like, since when you have fox fursuit, people think yiff.

I think a sheep dog is a lovely idea. Honestly, I think your mascot chara (the blue and white one) would be near perfect. She doesn't seem too fox-like, and is just fun overall. She has an appealing color-scheme and a neat, unique design to her.

In the end, it's your decision, but there's my two cents.

I'd go with some breed of dog. The sheltie would be great! They're cute and friendly and would be great for humane society fundraisers

UPDATE: Thanks for the input so far everyone. I'd just like to say that another factor to consider is markability vs uniqueness. The thing is that you may want a fursuit that other people can relate too, but at the same time be unique. I admit that while a Shetland Sheepdog fursuit would be perfect for fundraisers and people would react with "Oh it's a nice doggy", on the other hand dog fursuits are so common that they're hardly unique even if you add a bunch of random markings and accesories. Something uncommon and insanely unique would make you stand out and make you feel satisfied with your fursuit, but on the flip-side a lot of people might not "get it" and look at you like a bigger weirdo then you already are (self-insulting humor right there). So the question is whether it is better to have a fursuit that others will like or you yourself will like.....

There are furries out there who do that stuff. There's a Youtube channel called, "EZWOLF"
They act with fursuits. I think wanting a fursuuit would make you a furry, personally. I know I would love a fursuit too. :)

well you dont really /need/ a fursona to suit, but it helps a great deal. you can go in depth into the character and feel confident in your 'skin' so to say. XD wanting a fursuit kinda does make you a furry becsuse youre being an active member of the fandom. but its not a bad thing, most furries are kindhearted, and love new members!
as for designs, i wouldnt do anything thats already a character (ie: pokemon, mlp, ect) unless you plan to make the whole suit yourself. (which i dont advise unless you REALLY KNOW what youre doing. fursuit mishaps can get bad fast. XD) only reason i say dont do recognizable charas is cause most wont make them as commission, if any at all will, because of copyright issues.
as for a design, yes canines are a bit overdone. especially wolves and huskys.
your best bet is to create an interesting colorful chara you relate to. like if you did an arctic fox, make it your own with patterns! acctually, i looked through your gallery, and you do have a canine ...

that would be a great fursuit design! his name was Nautilus i belive.
or you could go with the shetland sheepdog (ive never seen a suit of one of those before!) in the end its really up to you. my best advice would be get a suit of someone like nautilus, and make a character background and personality for him.

i where fursuits in pub cuz it gets people to notice me and i like puting smiles on peoples faces .... i really dont mind people mined people saying weird,mean,and creeped out things about me... im a person who talks about what i am doing in it and most furries do it to have fun! its like making a small part in me snap and get happy.. it may seem weird and creepy but sometimes its just a hobby, that i love... its mostly a magical thing for me... i like to look furry cuz it makes joy and love come to my life.... uwu

and fursuit are based off a furry only becaues a fursuit is your fursona and you dont get payed to be in it all the time ... its only furries not ever all the things you said only if its based off there oun fursona or OC and dont do it once in a wile

to furries its like buying another part of you and a happy part too

i'm currently planing on making a head of my oc flow

i'm making a one of my bat character! so if you want a more unique one, i suggest uncommon animals. bats, raccoons, kangaroos, bears, things like that!

I've commissioned my oc Tazzo, and I already have the head, gloves, and shoe covers, All i need to purchase from my fursuit guy is the body, Its taking forever because he's basically rigging a fatsuit with fur, because tazzo is a fatty. XD
