As I said, I prefer to draw Kirby without the whites in his eyes because they make him look worse, in my opinion. Plus, I have nightmares on how I used to draw Kirby's eyes.... I find his eyes hard to draw, so I just leave them blank.
I think they make him look more alive and cute. They kind of give him a personality. Without the white things, he looks much more emotionless, dead, and almost a little ghost-like. Eye details are important for almost all characters, in my opinion.
A lot of Kirby's older sprites and artwork had him with simple black eyes, and I like to base my Kirby drawings off that. And if you watched the replay, you can see I was going to give him white eyes, but I thought he looked better without them.
That's because of technical limitations. Sprites could only have max 4 colors (Including the transparent) at the time. If the consoles were more powerful back then, he'd most likely have those white things in the games. Also, he has those white things in the official artworks too, even in those from the first games. The only thing he lacks is the blue iris-like thing on the lower part of his eye. They added that later to make him look more alive, and I think that's a good update. They did the same thing with Mario's eyes in the GameCube-era.
