I always thought that Herobrine is the evil twin of Steve.
And Steve helped Notch to send Herobrine to the Nether dimension because he went "out of control",but something goes wrong and he lost all his memories and tries to survive in his own, fighting monsters, traveling in diferents kind of biomas and unknow dimensions.
