Young Knife grew up living happily in his parents' cave in the frozen village. They taught him everything they knew - how to hunt, how to fight, and how to keep himself safe in the wild. And amazingly, Knife survived despite the harsh cold and the permanant lack of food; nobody in the village understood how such a young dragon could be so tough.
When he was a year old, his mother introduced him to another dragon who had just moved into the village. She was a small but beautiful golden dragon, roughly Knife's age, and her name was Sunstorm.
'Go on, dear,' said Corona in a motherly tone as she nudged Knife forwards. 'Go and introduce yourself.'
Knife slowly walked right up to the golden dragon, who was smiling at him in a friendly way, obviously eager to speak to him.
'H-hello,' he said nervously, trying not to make eye contact with her. 'I'm Knife.'
She didn't answer immediately and Knife, feeling like an idiot, ruffled his wings and started to turn away. But then the dragon's calm and elegant voice sounded behind him.
Over the next few days Knife and Sunstorm grew closer. At first, neither of them wanted to talk much, but Knife gradually stopped being nervous and found himself enjoying her company. She was quiet and polite, and had a love of flying and playing in the snow.
One cold day, Knife went up to her and tried to ask her a question. 'S-Sunstorm,' he began. 'Would you... like to come flying with me today in the mountains?'
Sunstorm grinned happily, because she and Knife had never flown together before. She immediately agreed.
From the cave entrance, Knife's parents smiled as they watched the two young dragons disappearing into the snow together. Corona sighed and nuzzled her beloved mate, and he nuzzled her back as they silently wished good luck to their son.
