I usually breed for my shinies. It never takes me very long . Also I have never been good at any of other methods.

I got a method for you!If you have a pokemon that uses Sweet Sent. Go to a patch of tall grass, and use sweet sent. It actually helps!

Shiny hunting, no matter what method, takes a while. Sometimes I can use the Friend Safari to find a shiny in an hour. Sometimes it takes six. I've tried the Masuda Method (the breeding one)...I've hatched over 450 eggs with no luck. Shiny hunting is a bittersweet fun.

The breeding method does take time and, with all shiny hunts, luck. I'm just horrible at the other methods so I stick with the simpliest, very difficult to mess up method. And I'm pretty fast at hatching once I get going.
