The egg broke apart with a loud cracking sound that woke up Corona. She immediately rushed to help the baby dragon out of its egg. Just then, she heard a heavy flapping of wings from outside the cave and Sleet appeared in the entrance, gasping for breath.

'What's going on? I-Is he hatching already?!' the nervous black dragon cried.

Corona whispered, 'Be quiet, you'll frighten him.' Then she went back to helping the baby out of its egg. Sleet dragged some food into the cave and settled down anxiously to wait...

It took a long time for the baby dragon to fully break out of the enormous egg. As soon as he hatched, Corona and Sleet leaned over to look at their son properly for the first time.

The young dragon's scales were bright silver, the same colour as his mother's. Like her, he also had sharp spikes along his neck and shoulders, but his were pale blue instead of green.

Corona smiled tearfully. 'He's perfect, Sleet,' she whispered. 'What should his name be?'

The black dragon thought about it for a very long time, because neither he nor Corona had decided on any possible names yet. But then his eyes came to rest on the baby's sharp blue spikes, and he smiled and replied:

'Knife. His name should be Knife.'
