When your making characters, do you usualy have a source of inspiration upon creating the designs and such, or is it something you just random think up? Or something else lol

#wolfsoul Almost all of my characters are based off of my dreams, but when i am inspired, it is usualy from the most unexpected places, for example, Renegade was inspired from Egyptian writing and Anubus (if i spelt that right) Kyro on the other hand was in a dream, and Crimson(an older o.c.) was inspired by my bed cover pattern and hena tattoos! haha

Could you give some advice on what you did in art school? Where did you go to? And... if there are any books or games that inspire you... could you recommend me some? I want to learn as much as i can before i actually finish highschool and go to college. Thanks! :D

Any tips to drawing a good dog/wolf type animal? I stink at drawing those, but I'd love to get better.

Thanks!

What is art at university like? I've applied to do a degree in art next year and I don't fully know what to expect.
Do you have freedom to paint whatever you want and take your ideas in any direction? or do you have to stick to a theme given to you by the tutors?

#lillywork when im drawing/painting fur, i tend to do the hair in sections and pieces, if i have time perhaps ill do a short tutorial to better explain.

#hyrulianchronicler1 So far im in my 1st year at ACAD (Alberta College of Art and Design). I have really enjoyed the wide variety of subjects that you can take, i have currently taken Sculpting, Design drawing, Jewlery, glass casting, and painting. although i know they also offer many more, Fibers, Ceramics, Computer animation, photography ect. The school is known for its many subjects and facilities. Overal it has been good, but extremely tough. If you expect art school to be easy, you will be in for a major shock. many of the artist i have talked to compare an arts degree to a medical degree as far as workload and long hours are concerned. Just make sure to reseach lots before you decide, that way you might know what you want to major in before you go (somthing i neglected to do). as far as inspiring books and games, i have one book called "drawing on the right side of the brain" which i quite enjoyed, it wasnt a "drawing book" but more of an excersise book to (cont.. below)

#hyrulianchronicler1 .... to get you to really be involved in your work, it also realy explained many ways in which the "artist" thinks. Games is a hard one, assuming you mean vid games, i find almost any game i play to be inspiring when you look at the detail that went into the surroundings and characters, if one stands out, i think i might have to say Skyrim. hope this helps a bit!

#multasorsa .. Fly, definitly fly. i mean breathing under water would be awesome to, but i just love the thought of freedom that comes with flying.

#redgyarados .. hmm well this one is kinda hard to put into words without a picture to go with it, ill try and do a tutorial soon, but while you wait, i guess the best advise i could give you is to practice. for me when im practicing, i try to concentrate on one part at a time. For example: one week ill consentrate on just the eye, and ill draw eyes from many angles and positions and expressions, then once im fairly happy with that, ill move onto the front legs, or ears, or nose, until ive drawn everything seperatly. then i just stick them alltogether.

#M.Collins .. Well to say the least its quite a heavy work load. So far im just in my 1st year, and they normally try to sift out the ones who are truly commited to those who arn't, so i would expect to go in knowing your probably not gonna have much free time, (unless your a fast worker). With my College they have had certain manditory classes, such as Art History, which i feel,(for me personaly) has no use, and i found it quite boring and dull, however, i didnt have the greatest instructor, which makes a large differance. With the studio classes, some had more 'free reign' on our work , while others were very strict, this was entirely dependant on your instructors. Almost all classes will have some type of outline for your work. In some cases i ended up hating my classes because they felt extremely restrictive to my creativity, yet others were very open if not non-existant guidelines. Overall it really depends on your instructors. I have been told however (cont below)...

#M.Collins ... however i have been told that my 3rd and final year are very open, alowing us to have our own studio space and time to create whatever we choose, wether that be painting, ceramics or even character design. Sorry i cant give you more info as it is difficult to tell yet if i am enjoying it yet or not (since im only 1st year) but over all i guess i would sum the 1st year up as: No life outside of school and work(expect some all nighters doing homework and projects), semi-open work expectations (teachers allowing), and high hopes for the future years. hope this helps a little!

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. I am quite a fast worker so I don't think the amount of work will be much of a problem. I tend to rush my artwork though so I might try to work with more patience at uni to improve.
The art history sounds a bit boring but it might be interesting, I'll have to wait and see. I hope my classes aren't too restrictive, i would prefer to experiment with my own ideas more.

Hmm...do you have a favorite hobby other than art-related things?

Kjumper

16 Mar, 2014, 3:32 pm

#thewiccanstar .. hmm this is a tough one as i tend to switch favorites on a lot of things. hmm probs between .... a werewolf or dragon. Im gona say Dragon.

Kjumper

16 Mar, 2014, 3:38 pm

#Colormagic .. this one is tough to say. when i was in High School, yes. but in art college theres so many different styles that its impossible to really know. for example someone might be great at cartooning, where as i suck at cartoons. so saying im a better artist dosnt really apply. I believe that just because you are great at something, or even 'the best' you can always improve. And dont think that you cant achieve drawing ability. The fact that you have colors gallery shows that you love to draw, just contine to practice and never stop getting better. :)

#Goldekat .. haha my name acctualy came from my barn name! (what my friends called me at the horse barn) Kj for short, we each had a different one. when i was deciding on a name that was the first one that came to mind! and yes, you may cuddle with kyro, he appreciates then cookies, but can be a little shy with cuddles, :P

Re: thank you for getting back to me! I've already looked at interviews and advice from digital art insructors on youtube over the past few months, (FZDSchool.) Yeah, they are tough. But i've made promises to everyone and myself with art, theres nothing better i'm good at that also makes me happy. XD
Thank you for your view on things! Very much appreciated.

17 Mar, 2014, 8:25 pm

Do you want to do an art trade? :D Nah, that's not my question. Unless you just really want to. xD

Hmmm... do you ever just wanna throw your art stuff at the wall because you can't draw something? Just wondering, because you're so good at art, and I do that a lot. (I don't actually throw it though xD)

Kjumper

22 Mar, 2014, 1:52 am

#XxSakuraWolfxX.. Kyros top speed is 35 mph, about the top speed of an average wolf. Renegades top speed is 65 mph. around the speed of a cheetah.
