Haha, maybe to some people, tracing's a challenge and they feel like they've accomplished something. A lot of people are probably like "I drew a thing!" and maybe (for some, not all) that's all art is to them; they're not looking to learn or put in effort or better themselves artistically. They just want to see that they did something, and, preferably, for it to look "good". So they trace something that's already been drawn well. Can't say that for everyone though, I think it varies. Like, popularity contests and etc., too. Doesn't make any of it less silly, though. :D
I know, right? It really gets on my nerves when I see a traced picture on week's best, and my pictures that I spent several hours drawing only get 1 to 10 likes. :( Oh well...

I'm only dissapointed and annoyed when the trace is horribly executed.
