*facepalms*
They ask if you're human because not all visitors going to websites are human. There are a lot of bots out there trying to pass themselves of as human to scam, spread malware and virus's, advertise services and other websites etc.
So no . . . It isn't as silly as you might think for a website to want you to prove that you are human and not a bot.
