I agree with @Hexile. Develop your own art style. Shine is very over-rated and not very original. The sketch is pretty epic though.

I was making it skin, it's not fur and she's underwater.... But I'll try toning the shine down.

Yeah I think Dashy and Hexile are just being hyper-sensitive to anything TLC-esque. Like you said, it's skin /underwater./ I honestly don't think you need to tone it down at all given those conditions.
That's just my two cents though. Also, can't wait to see what you do with that tail! Scales always look cool underwater.
