I'm not a fan of wolf based things usually but this is a surprisingly accurate of how packs and prides work.
Lion Prides do this too. When a new top-lion takes over a group of females, known as a pride, he will go around and k.ill any cubs. They do this to insure their DNA is passed on, no sense raising and defending someone elses DNA. It's a bit cruel but pack social structures are an amazingly complex system.

I do know that alpha's dont like anyone else to breed but them. other that that, my story is gonna be pretty ficticious, lol. more fun that way.
