Well, it's a Pokemon's bond with it's trainer that starts the Mega Evolution, right (not to mention the evolution stones)? Well, the Pokemon's trainer died whilst Banette was still in Mega Evolution, and since the bond between them was so strong, the effects of Mega Evolution stayed.
I'd imagine that if the Banette finds a new owner, and becomes loyal to them, then it'd go away.
This is all a concept/headcanon, so something might be off...?
