Long ago, two princesses ruled over all of Equestria. The elder raised and lowered the sun, while the younger controlled the moon. Together they kept harmony for all their citizens.
One day, the elder sister, jealous of the fun her ponies enjoyed during the night, turned against her sister and refused to lower the sun. In doing so, she had transformed into Midnight Sun Madness, and vowed to make the day last forever.
