I think you should definitely go for it, you could really do well.... I unfortunately don't do this for a living myself but I'd say a lot depends on where you live and what your interests are. For example if you wanted to get into computer graphics for making video games a lot of that is done in California. I guess it depends on if you are willing to move to earn a living there. Teaching art could be fun if you like dealing with people whicj from your comments and the way you encourage others I think you'd do well as an art teacher. Of course depending on what state you live in teaching jobs may be scarce or not terribly stable. Places like New York are good for fine art like portraits and things but that could be a harder area to break into. If you have any good art teachers at your school I would suggest talking to them to see what schools they recommend and if they have any pointers. I do think art can be a difficult career choice when trying to earn money but would be extremely rewarding to do what you love and are good at. If I can be of more help let me know! Whatever you chose I think you can be really successful!

Thank you very much for the advice, I love the process of painting and watching other people's methods but sometimes (no matter how much I try) I just can't get it right... do you use a photo reference when that happens? For example, i'm trying to draw horns on a character's head but there's a boat load of perspective problems and.... hehe i'm sure you know... But anyway thanks so much for replying before, I really appreciate your help and support! -E

also I'd recommend taking as many art classes as possible even in things you may not think of. I took a jewelry and enameling class in high school and I really loved it. My most important piece of advice would be to go for it while you are young because once you are out on your own it's more difficult to have the time or money to be able to go back to school. Hopefully you have parents who can either help you pay for college or get a loan if you need it.
