all characters are anthro -prologue- somewhere north of the final explosion point, three hours before noon "Are you sure about this?" the deer-headed man paused, his hands on the leather bag's clasps. "Yes." the gray wolf crouched in the sand beside him sighed. "I'll never be more certain than now, that's for sure." The deer nodded slowly. Deftly undoing the clasps, he opened the bag and produced a small glass flask from inside. "You're taking a big risk here, Kiru." he warned, but his voice sounded resigned. His companion shrugged. "We've already lost the laboratory. Nothing that happens here can make it worse." The deer looked around, not offering an answer. As far as the eye could see, blackened sand stretched out before them. He knew what would happen here soon, but was afraid to tell the wolf beside him. If Kiru knew...Shaking his head, the anthro offered his comrade the bottle. A clear, luminiscent liquid filled it. For a moment his green eyes met the wolf's yellow ones. "You know I can't change your choice." he sighed. -not done-
"I know." Kiru smiled, revealing white fangs. He opened the flask and lifted it to his mouth. The wolf hesitated for a moment, fear glimmered in his eyes. "Maybe..." "You'll be fine. This was your idea, after all." the deer returned the smile, but his eyes didn't change. "The fact that I don't like this doesn't mean it'll go wrong." /I hope.../ he added silently. The clear liquid, called simply Water was only dangerous in large doses, and it was never deadly. It didn't have to be. It served only to "open eyes", revealed the past and future. Some said it had always flowed through time, and would always do so. Kiru nodded slowly. He tipped back his head and emptied the flask. Suddenly his eyes glazed over, the glass bottle slipped from his grasp. It turned, end over end, shining like the stars that once lit the sky. It h.it the ground, sha.ttered into a thousand fragments. His companion tensed. "Open your eyes," he whispered. "Let the Water guide them, and secrets long lost will be revealed..." Kiro did not reply, but his eyes cleared, and he saw... -not done, just waiting for feedback-
A collision of worlds. Four figures dressed in rags shuffled forward, heads low against the raging storm. One of them slowly turned it's head, and revealed a smooth, pale face, one that could not belong to any animal. For a moment the wind calmed, and Kiru saw the creature's eyes. They were empty like a pair of dark wells. A dangerous gift. Now it was not a storm of ice but a dark, crowded room. "Xavier, yes?" a silver fox leaned against the table behind which sat a pale-furred wolf. The fox reached out, opened his hand. In his palm lay a ring of polished gold. A toss of the dice. A pair of dragons, one steel and one scarlet, spiraled toward the ground, wings locked. They spun, fluidly changing places; dark and light, dark and light. More came, but now the images were faster: flames and cities, faces and shadows, and in every fragment was a wolf with golden eyes. Slowly the vision faded.
