Pearl and Grian lived with they're parents on a farm. (still sh*tty parents/abusive) A hero/villain fight started happening over the farm and it was being destroyed.

Pearl got lil Grian and booked it. A vigilante came to help. The parents were still in the now burning house so the vigilante tried to save them. Before he went in he saw the scars and clear signs of abuse on the little boy (G)

And Pearl slowly shook her head. The vigilante no longer wanted to save the parents. He took them to a safe spot and they basicly became homeless.
Pearl took care of Grian and always tried to give them food. They both hated heros. When Pearl turned 18 (G is 15) She got an offer to become a hero because of her powers. She didn't want to do it but she knew it would provide money so she could give G a good life.

Grian still hated heros so when he became of age he became a vigilante

ALSO BECAUSE MORE PB TRAUMA- At the age of 17 Grian was SAed and the other one by HG's mentor. So Grian HATES hotguy
